İhlara Valley
The valley of Ihlara or Peristrema (named by the Greeks who lived there until 1923-1924 when they exchanged their place) , is a beautiful canyon of about 15 kms long, with a depth of approximately 100 meters .
The Melendiz river goes from Ihlara to Selime, with Besirma in the middle .It begins at Ihlara village and ends with Selime Monastery at Selime village.
The churches in the valley fall into two groups:
The first consists of the churches near the village of Ihlara,
The second group is located near the village of Belisarma .
Some of the churches were decorated with paintings in the Byzantine Style.
Fragant church, Dark castle church, Snake church, Church with Black Collar, Church of St. George are some of the churches you will find.
This great hiking takes you on a winding trailof 4 kms approx. with the river on one side and the canyon walls
on both side. It is a lovely walk. You can also find a stairway with almost 400 steps, it is an astonishing view of the canyon.
A great number of restaurants are located on the river, enjoy sitting next to the river while having lunch or
drinking tea as well as shops .
A fascinating place to enjoy the nature, Dont FORGET to wear comfortable clothes and trainers.
